Prospects are individuals in your talent pool who are not applicants in Fountain Hire and do not have Worker Profiles saved to Fountain. However, you still want to include these individuals in your pool to send them targeted campaigns to potentially match them to new job Openings. In this article, we’ll discuss adding prospects to Pool in bulk through the Talent page and the Settings page. We’ll also show you the steps to set up your prospect data mapping.
Prospect Data Mapping
Before importing data sources, if your contact spreadsheet has “custom” data columns beyond those in the CSV Template, you must map each additional data column from the CSV file to Fountain custom attributes to ensure proper targeting in Pool.
Create new custom attributes first if needed by following the steps in this article. These custom attributes will be visible in the Summary section of the Talent Profile and can be used in places like the Automation Center, when creating segments, or when filtering within different Fountain products.
Important Note:
Although custom attributes can be used across Fountain, prospect contacts uploaded to Pool via CSV file will not appear in the Worker Profile list or anywhere else in Fountain products unless there are already corresponding worker contacts with the same email address
To map column data to your custom attributes, follow the steps below:
Click Pool in the left side panel and then Settings.
Click Edit in the Talent Eligibility tile.
Scroll down to the Prospects Data mapping section.
Click +Add data column. The columns in the CSV that you can map to are: personalEmail, firstname, middlename, lastname, mobilePhone, homePhone, homeAddress1, homeAddress2, homeAddressCity, homeAddressStage, homeAddressZip, homeAddressCounty, timezone, dataOfBirth, or brandUuid.
Select the custom attribute in the custom attribute dropdown list.
Click the checkmark icon to save.
Click the X to delete the entry.
Click +Add data column to add more data mapping entries.
Pool Settings Steps
To bulk import prospects on the Settings page, follow the steps below:
Click Pool in the left side panel and then Settings.
Click Edit in the Talent Eligibility tile.
Scroll down to the Prospects Data sources section.

Enter prospect information into the CSV file. The prospect’s email, first name, and last name are required.
Save the CSV file to your computer.

Click Import. You will receive a confirmation message or an error message with details on the issues that must be corrected in the CSV file.
All previously uploaded files will be saved in a list under the Data sources section. Use the search to find specific files.
Import Prospects
Upload Prospects via Data Pipeline
For large-scale or recurring prospect uploads, Pool supports ingestion via Fountain's Data Pipelines tool. This method is designed for uploads that exceed what a single CSV import can handle — including one-time bulk uploads of tens of thousands of contacts, and recurring ingestion from external sources.
When to use this method:
You are uploading more than a few hundred prospects at once
You have a recurring source of prospect data (for example, a nightly export from an external database)
You want to automate prospect ingestion without manual CSV uploads
To configure a pipeline for Prospects, navigate to Settings > Data Pipelines and create a pipeline with Prospects as the data type. For full setup instructions, see Data Pipelines.
Enablement Required
Data Pipelines is available to select customers only. If you do not see Data Pipelines in your Settings, contact your Fountain representative to enable it for your account.
Import Prospects via the Talent Page
Click Pool in the left side panel and then Talent.
Click Import in the top right corner.
Click Download CSV template.
Enter prospect information into the CSV file. The prospect’s email, first name, and last name are required.
Save the CSV file to your computer.
Drag and drop or click to select the CSV file on your computer.
Click Import. You will receive a confirmation message or an error message with details on the issues that must be corrected in the CSV file.
Keep CSV Imports Small for Best Results
When uploading prospects via CSV file, limit each file to 50 prospects or fewer for best results. For large-scale or recurring uploads, use the Data Pipeline method instead.
